Read to Write, Write to Read

A big thanks to John Green from the Vlogbrothers for reminding me of something very important when it comes to writing. As an aspiring writer, I’ve begun to seriously start writing more often. Short stories are becoming more common recently. As I was watching the Brotherhood 2.0 videos from ages ago (December), John did a question Tuesday and answered another aspiring writer’s question “Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?”
His answer came in two parts, the most important to me at the time being: “Read.”
(Obviously there was more to it, but for simplicity’s sake and because it is now 1:17 in the morning, I’ll just keep it at that.)
What I hadn’t realized, was that I’ve been neglecting my books. I’ve been so concerned with finishing my short stories (and so stressed out thanks to writer’s block), that I’ve forgotten to read. Reading is just as important as writing because it is the inspiration of writing. Reading gives me new ideas, gets my own writing flow going. How could I have forgotten such an important factor?
So on my to-do list for tomorrow:
-Read.
-Read some more.
-Read your homework assignment.
-Then read some more again.
-Oh, and clean your room, you absolute bio-hazard.
